Japanese equities were mixed as investors await the Friday release of the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation — the personal consumption expenditures price index.
Topix Index fell 0.2% to 2,340.90 as of 9:06 a.m. Tokyo time
Nikkei advanced 0.1% to 31,920.22
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group contributed the most to the Topix’s decline, decreasing 1.5%. Out of 2,156 stocks in the index, 994 rose and 957 fell, while 205 were unchanged.
“With the release of the US PCE coming up, Japanese equities are likely to be in a wait-and-see mood,” said Nobuhiko Kuramochi, market strategist at Mizuho Securities.
